Position Title: High School Biology Teacher
Work Location: Maritime Academy High School Charter School
Reports To: High School Principal
Position Summary
The Maritime Academy Charter High School Biology Teacher will develop engaging curricula, including lab experiments and other scientific investigations; present lessons and evaluate student performance; cultivate critical thinking skills in students to ensure they understand how the world around them works and how to become leaders and agents of positive change. The High School Biology Teacher serves in a 10 month position.
Essential Functions
The duties of a High School Biology Teacher that are specific to the MACHS school mission, include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Plan and implement lab- based molecular and cellular biology, evolution and science education methods based on state standards and guidelines
- Create engaging lessons that develop student critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress
- Provide accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students
- Attend grade level and staff meetings and work with team to address and resolve student issues

- Demonstrates?support and knowledge of school's goals and mission

Education and Certification:
Bachelor’s degree or higher and mastery of core subject
Possess and maintain a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Professional Certification in Biology for grades 7-12.
